This can be remedied by replacing the undersized capacitor with a higher-rated capacitor. The capacitor is undersized and, when it fails, will cause kernel panics.

The 2010 15" MacBook Pro has an issue with capacitor c9560 which handles switching from the Intel graphics to nVidia graphics. The nVidia GT330m was only used on the 2010 15" MacBook Pro. I don't think the integrated graphics would be suitable for games unless they are not very demanding with respect to GPU or CPU power.Įvery 13" Pro and Air from 2011 to today uses Intel graphics with no option for a discrete GPU. The HD6000 is used in the early 20 Air (there is no official 2016 model). The HD5000 is used in the mid-2013 and early 2014 Air.

The HD3000 was integrated into the second gen mobile processor. OTOH, a 2012 non-Retina MacBook Pro would probably fall into your price range, but you may have to spend more for a memory and SSD upgrade.Ĭan u explain the graphics thing to me I see a lot of them that are HD 3000 512 mb is this good? My son will want to play games on it as well (fortnite) would be able to?Įvery Air uses the GPU integrated into the Intel CPU. My 2008 would be very slow for video editing though. I don't care about the broken optical drive.

Total cost of the machine was $230 tax in with the new RAM, plus SSD (which in my case cost me nothing). However, I later managed to luck into a flash Amazon deal for 8 GB of Transcend RAM for all of $44, so I'm now running it with 8 GB. I also had 4 GB lying around so I installed that and the thing ran decently well with High Sierra. I fixed the trackpad simply by adjusting the tension screw and I swapped in an old SSD I just happened to have lying around. The trackpad was mushy so not all button presses would work properly in some parts of the trackpad, and the optical drive didn't work.

I bought the 2008 MacBook I mentioned above for CAD$180 in fall 2017. YMMV, but Kijiji sometimes has some good deals if you're a tinkerer.
